Hello,

quick question:

I had a drivers license in NJ in 2004-2005, then I moved to PA and they took it. I was an au pair back then.

Right now I have a temporary green card and will be moving to NJ in a couple of days.

Do I have to go through this permit period (three months with an adult) or can I obtain DL the same day? We just called to NJ DMV and the lady seemed like she didn't really know - said I would have to do this three months permit period, eventhough I had a NJ license before! She also said they don't give licenses to temporary green card holders. So what am I supposed to do?! Wait couple years?

Does anyone know, how is this done in NJ? I have a copy of my NJ license and old PA license, I can prove in DMV.

Or should I just try to get a license in a different state, like Ohio maybe (I'll be there for a week or so)?

Whoever told you they do not give drivers license to temporary green card holders is retarded. I know for a fact that they give licences to permanent residence. I had a NJ license with just an EAD 3 years ago and it was valid for 1 year so how can they turn you down for having a green card? Go to the dmv with your green card and get your license without any problem. You obviously spoke to an idiot and you shouldn't worry.
