For convenience related reasons, I'd like to re-open a bank account and/or line of credit in Canada. Will this cause me to have to start filing Canadian tax returns again?

I don't see why it would....unless you'd be earning massive amounts of interest in your bank account. I still have a Cdn TD Canadatrust account and I do not fileCdn tax returns. I have a small amount of moeny to use for spending when I go back home and sometimes I deposit more in it.

As a general rule, Bank accounts and filing are mutually exclusive.

If you were to earn income in Canada, then you need to file taxes.

So unless as stated above, you were to earn enough interest from the Canadian account to matter as "income", you wouldnt need to worry about it

Thank you guys! I am not planning on earning any interest since I just want a checking account and a line of credit. I closed these when I left Canada but I wish I hadn't now.
