Ahmadinejad: The Hidden Imam Runs The World

In a speech to clerics in Mashad last month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that the appearance of the Hidden Imam, the Shi'ite messiah, was imminent, and declared, "The time has come for us to carry out our global duty... With God's help, Iran will become the center of [global] leadership... The Hidden Imam runs the affairs of Iran and of the rest of the countries of the world... and he is preventing the U.S. from taking over Iraq's oil and looting it."

The speech was broadcast on Iranian TV on May 5 (see clip at MEMRI TV).

Alam-al-Hoda, Friday prayer leader in the city of Mashhad, reinforced Ahmadinejad's statements, saying that nuclear scientists had told him that they had successfully overcome the technical difficulties of developing Iran's nuclear program by turning to the Hidden Imam.

In response, Assembly of Experts member and senior Iranian cleric Ayatollah Madavi-Kani said that according to Shi'ite belief, the Hidden Imam, during the time he is hidden, is invisible and conveys no messages to anyone. He added that Ahmadinejad's statements were harming the image of the Hidden Imam, because Iran's economic problems were being attributed to him.

What dealing with ships, the escort is usually a warship/warships escorting the cargo vessels. That is the terminology used. The 70 is the number of relief workers on board the ships.

My apologies, I got stuck on stupid thinking that 70 was the number of marines, it is indeed the aid workers.

We do not know the number of marines.

However, there are only 3 ships, 2 aid ships, and a hospital ship to follow, no mention of warships.

In a provocative move the Iranian Red Crescent was this weekend due to send two vessels packed with food and medical aid and 70 relief workers.

A third ship, carrying an operating theatre, could follow.

For a start the cargo ships would be sailing under the auspices of the Red Crescent. Even the Iranians would not be so disrespectful as to put armed troops aboard a Red Crescent vessel. To do so would be to void the protected status of the Red Crescent and to render it an armed military vessel under the flag it flies, i.e. Iran.

Yes, yes they would be that disrespectful....

(this line also shows that they consider the marines the military escort)

President Ahmadinejad raised the spectre of a sea battle as he warned the ships would be carrying an escort of "volunteer marines" ready to "teach Israelis a lesson".
