Police Certificate (Character Certificate) in Pakistan

Hi.

Regarding the police certificate or "character certificate" as it is called, do you have to have some specific paperwork requesting this from the NVC or can a person just go to the local police station and request a character certificat?

I would like to get the necessary paperwork all in hand by the time the NOA-2 comes but someone suggested that maybe the police station will require some official notification from NVC before they will issue the police certificate.

Thanks.

My husband got his police certificate without any letter from NVC. He just went to the police station with the correct fee and got it. The problem is that the police certificate is only valid for 3 months I think and if you get it too early may expire before your NOA-2 arrives.

yep my husband just went and they made one for him same day. u'll need passport size photo for that or maybe the pakistani ID card. aka shanakhti card. it is valid for 3 months only and from what i've heard from ppl on visajourney is that NVC will accept it for upto 1 yr old. i would suggest that as soon u get ur NOA2, ask ur spouse to mail one to u. that's what i did. i've also told my husband to get another one at the time of the interview just in case

@ProPaki - I believe that is the official notification from the NVC requesting the Police Certificate.

Everyone has different experiences in Pakistan with obtaining Police Certificates depending on the city you get it from and the jurisdiction. There is no fee in obtaining the certificates...rather its a bribe (as far as i know). But my husband got it from 3 different cities with the following experiences 1. demanded the bribe right upfront to even get the process going, 2. Created issues with everything he submitted hoping he would get something out of it but luckily a family friend was their boss and it was done the very next day, 3. Created issues but luckily a shift change happened and the guy who came afterwards was really nice and approved all the documents my husband submitted without any issues (bc we had everything in order).

So no one can really tell you exactly what will happen, however you do need to fill out a form they give you, submit attested passport copies, attested NIC copies, a witness in the neighborhood who can vouch you live there or more depending on your jurisdiction - some said 1 others 2-3, passport pictures, and the official letter asking for the police certificate for your immigration purpose. I believe that is all according to my memory.

Hope this helps.
