Hi Everyone,

We just got our invite today for the AOS interview at the end of June. My wife and I were just married this February and I was curious about how they treat newlyweds?

From what I have read it sounds like the best we can do is the 2 year Green Card - regardless of how well we interview. Is this correct? They can't really be expecting as much from us as they would someone applying for removal of conditions... which makes me think - why are they even bothering with this particular interview? It would be one thing if we could show them we are bonifides and go straight for the 10 year GC, but if not it seems like a monumental waste of time. From the list of documentation etc. they're asking for one would think this was going for the removal of conditions.

What should I be expecting here?

Thanks.

I think your expectations are in line but I've never heard of anyone skipping the 2yr GC

and going straight for the 10 - just not how it works. Just give them whatever documentation

and photos with relatives you can prepare. Have an awareness of your living quarters

as far as number of rooms, furniture, color scheme, etc. and be prepared to discuss shared

events, like weekend trips, etc. Also it's good to know names of each other's immediate

family. I went through AOS with first wife (Japanese) and it barely lasted a few minutes.

That was a long time ago, so get more answers from those that did it recently.

If your marriage is less than 2 years, they will only give you conditional green card that is valid for 2 years. Before 90 days expiration of 2 years card, you must file I-751:removal condition on residence and MUST, or else your residence status will be terminated. After approved I-751, they will issue you 10 year one. Hope that helps.
