If any DCFers could chime in on this, I was wondering if the interview in Montreal for DCF filers is longer/more complex, seeing as how the COs have never had a chance to look at our I-864s, etc.?

Sadly I don't think you will get many responses, DCFers are a flighty bunch :hehe:

Of three most recent, Andylans, Edmontongirl and americana2009 - only americana bothered to write a review - well maybe andy and EG did too and they are there somewhere amongst the reviews that has no advanced search feature which is really annoying

Most of the DCF reviews I've read in the past year or so seem to revolve around issues of domicile. Other than people having problems proving that, I don't really remember anyone having a particularity unusual or difficult interview experience.

For our K-1, I got the impression that the CO in Montreal didn't even look at our Packet 3 forms until the moment we walked into the interview room. The majority of our interview was her reading the forms and then asking questions when she got to something that interested her.

^^^^^ Thanks for the replies, guys. :) Yeah, the DCFer seems to be a rare breed around here. Edmontongirl was lucky, she was done in 4 months, start-to-finish!

Ah, I see - I guess everyone's support info is brand new to the consular staff, as it would have been NVC who received all the paperwork. I was just wondering, because all they've received from us so far is the I-130 and the DS-230. (I'm still a little <_< that it took them 4 weeks for just the DS-230 to be logged in)

My fingers are still crossed to hear something date-wise this week. ;)

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone who filed for DCF (Montreal) in December 2009? I did, and wanted to have an idea of the length of time it's taken some people to obtain an interview date.

Thanks.

Hi,

Those people probably haven't gotten an interview date yet - so it's hard to say. Birdnerd submitted their checklist within one day of you - in theory you should both be getting an interview in the next couple of months.

I sent my DS-230 and checklist to Montreal in February but haven't heard anything from them. My I-130 was approved in Vancouver (DCF) last November.

Also, when I spoke to the NVC (today) they said they weren't handling the case at all, didn't have any information and to contact Montreal directly to get an update.

5 months since I sent in the checklist as DS-230 and haven't heard anything. No replies to emails either.

4 months for me. I haven't even bothered emailing, but ditto to not having heard anything.

Maybe we DCFers need to email/write all at once, tell them 'hey - why are we being passed over consistently from month to month?'

Or something along those lines.

There don't seem to be many other DCF's on the forum unfortunately, so it is difficult to gauge how long it is supposed to take. In the letter I received in December it quoted 4-6 months from receipt of the checklist (which at 5 months now is still within their timefram). The automated message system at Montreal now says 5-7 months. I was under the impression that DCF was the quickest way to get a green card, but I'm not sure it is anymore.

If one went the regular cr-1, or ir-1 route it can take over a year!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
