Hi everyone,

I am scheduled for my visa interview on June 3rd at the Paris Embassy. Prior to that, I must complete a medical exam on May 31st to which I must bring recent chest X-ray. I am 9 weeks pregnant and therefore any form of radiation should be avoided.

What shall I do? No X-rays means no medical exam. No medical exam means no visa interview! Obviously I want to be with my fiance during the whole pregnancy so postponing is NOT an option. I am currently in the US on a visa waiver but am flying back next Thursday for the visa interview.

Thanks!

Sophia

Hi,

Maybe you could read this post : http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/251410-unplanned-event-during-k1-visa-process/page__p__3870065__hl__pregnancy__fromsearch__1entry3870065

By quickly reading it it appeared the doctor would place a protective blanket around the belly to prevent x-raying the baby. So you would have to tell the doctor about it.

Also I read your fiancé may need to sent a letter saying he is aware of the pregnancy and still wants to support you and the baby.

There is probably more info on the link to the other post, like I said I haven't read it completely and maybe people who answered to this post know more about your situation.

Bonne chance pour la suite

Good luck on your journey

Bruno

Wow Thanks Bruno, I think you just saved me a huge deal of hassle... I thought that if anything being pregnant will facilitate the process. And now I found out that it actually makes things more complicated since my fiance needs to assert again he is still willing to marry me, and that should be a notarized statement... *faints*

Good luck to you too, seems like you'll be in my shoes in a couple of months alors courage :)

I just found this on the Paris US embassy site :

I’m pregnant and can’t have the X-rays done. What can I do?

You are not expected to have X-rays taken when you are pregnant. The panel physician will advise you when, after you’ve given birth, it will be appropriate to have the X-ray done.

So it seems you don't have to do the x-ray. But you need it when you want to adjust status within 90 days of entering the US and you will likely still be pregnant at that time.

I think you should call the Embassy because it looks like your case is more complex than it appears to be.

Good luck on your journey

Bruno
