You want to google "divorce kit" for your state. If she's cooperative - i.e. willing to fax signed papers back and forth every so often, and there are few or no shared assets, you can almost certainly do this without a lawyer.

If she is uncooperative, or you cannot get in touch with her at all, your state almost certainly has rules and procedures for obtaining a divorce "in absentia". This will take longer, and you will probably need at least 1-2 consults with a lawyer to work out the details, but it definitely can be done. Don't panic.

Hopefully she's at least communicative and reasonably cooperative. She's in the same boat you are. France isn't another planet - she's as bound by the American marriage as you currently are.

Divorce is a terrible, terrible thing, and both of you should be willing to move heaven and earth to make this thing work. But an unresponsive/uncooperative spouse on another continent does not trap you forever. As I said, google your state's procedures for "in absentia" divorces.
