To: All VJ members going through the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia.

I am posting this thread because I have had to explain this process many times so by putting it here it should help everyone. The best of luck to your fiancée and you. (L)

You could look at my timeline and get an idea. Remember no two K-1 fiancée visa petitions are exactly the same.

After your petition leaves your service center (CSC/TSC, NVC, VSC) it goes to NVC and it might take about two weeks. From NVC it goes to the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá this usually takes about four or five days.

There are short-cuts that you can take once the petition gets to Bogotá. But the first thing you do is to call NVC every couple of days to a week. Make sure you speak with a customer service representative and not the automated system, K-1’s stay less than two weeks and they do not put them in the system. When you call NVC, get your case number and ask them when they will sent the petition out. Once you know that date, call back on that date and make sure that they sent it out. Then you track the package through www.dhl.com. I will give you the instruction later.

Once the petition gets to the Embassy you or your fiancée faxes and sends by courier (Servientrega); a copy of your fiancées passport, OF-169, DS-2001 and DS-230 part 1. If the Embassy gets these documents before the cut-off date (varies from month to month 16th to the 20th) then you get the interview the following month. If not by the cut-off date you get the interview the month after that.

After the NOA2 every thing moves fast so you need to make sure your fiancée and you get all the documents, paperwork, and all other stuff ready and send it to her.

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Hey guys, I was just thrown a curve ball by the Colombian Embassy. My fiancee received her packet 3 last week Friday after going to APOSTAL in Cartagena and making the people search for it for over an hour. I guess the office was a complete mess and they have no organization at all. They had packet 3 for over three weeks without trying to deliver it. Getting packet 3 really did not matter because I followed Peter's advice regarding shortcuts and sent in the packet three documents the day I saw the embassy received the package from DHL.

Here is the problem.. Packet three had a list of 10 documents that must be provided for our interview (November 30th) Well, this week my fiancee went back to APOSTAL to search for our packet 4. She found it and when she opened it and read everything the embassy had added a 11th document requirement to the list!! The 11th items required is a letter from DAS regarding how many times she has left Colombia. Well, she instantly went to the local DAS office to try and get this letter. They told her that it would take over a month to get the letter!! That is really bad considering our appointment is in a week! They did tell her that she could get the letter much faster in Bogota (5 days). The problem is we both arrive in Bogota on Monday and our interview is Thursday.

Is there any way we will be able to get this letter in time for our interview??

Has anyone experienced this?

Any help would be greatly appriciated. We have been waiting so long for this interview and I thought we had everything in order. Now they throw this at us :(

PeterinMiami.... I hope you can help me on this one..

I've read your thread regarding the NVC to Bogota process and began preparing all of the documents my spouse needs for his Package 3 response. But now I started reading the NVC Forum and found Jason's NVC Shortcuts and I'm totally confused. My confusion pertains to weather or not his shortcuts apply to those of us with spouses in Colombia? With his route, it seems like the K3 visa will take longer to ship out to Bogota than illustrated in your tips below????? Please advise.

Hello. I am not Peter, but I had similar concerns a few weeks ago. It turns out that James' shortcuts only apply to IR-1/CR-1 visas processed through NVC to the embassy. These shortcuts will NOT help us. So my advice is to listen to Peter. I have already gotten all of my documents ready. As soon as I know the I-129F is in Bogota, I am having my wife fax the documents. My packet will include DS-230 (for my wife and step-daughter), OF-169 (even though it is outdated), DS-2001 (I have one from El Salvador and one from the UK - we will send both), and copies of passports for both wife and step-daughter. I'm calling the NVC this Friday to see if they have received the petition yet and, if so, when they plan to send it to Bogota. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a January interview if they process quickly enough.

Hello Colombia Club Members!

I found out today that NVC receceived my K3 Approval from CSC this past Monday, today being Thursday and when I asked them when they would forward it on to Bogota, they said they did not know as they had just received it.

I see where it is possible to track the package to Bogota once it is sent from NVC and I see on this thread where it goes via DHL, but how do you track it with out a tracking number?

Just give them a call at 603-334-0700. You will need your receipt number.

They should be able to tell you if your petition has arrive and, if so, the case number (if it has been assigned). They MAY be able to tell you when it is going to be sent to Bogota.

Hello fellow Colombian Club Members!

My K3 was received by NVC on Monday (11/27/06) and was assigned a case number, but as of Friday (12/1/06), NVC told me they still did not know when they would send it out to Bogota. Hopefully they will send it out sometime next week!

Does anyone have any experience with this new document required in Package 3 mentioned a few posts up in this thread that says there is a new 11th document required from DAS, a letter stating how many times the Colombian national has exited the country? If anyone knows first hand about this requirement, could they expound on this for the rest of us? How much did it cost, how long did it take to get? Is there an actual name for the document? etc.

Thanks,

Tony

I don't know anything about this new document. But I have a friend whose fiance just had her embassy interview about two weeks ago. He's not on this board, but I've sent him an e-mail with the question. If I hear anything I will post it.

Mike

Thanks Mike!

Just as I think I have a handle on everything something else pops up! Any information you post will be greatly appreciated!

Tony

It's great to see people go out of their way to help others out as you all do on this site. Muy noble. Dios me los bendiga.

I filed our I-295F last week after some "policias acostados" (bumps in the road- Colombian style). Jeez.. my otherwise intelligent Carolina really had a hard time with the English-language forms.

I'm writing to ask you to help out this pobre "Paisita Chiviado" (hecho en las montanas antioquenas pero nacido en Los Junited Estates). I would appreciate any shortcuts, tips, forms, advice, you name it... anything that might make this wait a little shorter. I've already travelled to Medellin 3 times this year and planning another trip for next month, and I'm starting to feel a little light in the wallet (I used to tip to the left when I sat down)

Unfortunately, it seems the legendary Peter Miami is missing in action. Can anyone PLEASE e-mail me the forms and instructions he refers to in the previous posts?

The 11th document is something call the Das letter and is a document that tell the consulate how many times have you been in and out of the country..if you try to get that document from anywhere outside of Bogota it takes about a month to get it.. but if you go and get it in Bogota it takes 3 days the building address in Bogota is Edificio platinum extranjeria Das..calle 100#11b-27 and the cost is 36.500 pesos..you must pay at Bancafe before you go and you must take 2 copies of your Cedula number..this document is a new requiretment so know we need to be in Bogota 1 week before the interview instead of 3 days..hope this can help a little....
