You may attend the interview. You WILL attend the interview! Of course that is assuming that you do not give yourself a fatal anxiety attack before you have the opportunity. :bonk:

By the way, we are in the same boat. I am also going from a family of 1 to a family of 4. Yikes! :help:

Buck,

Yes, still be concerned about the certificate situation, do NOT brush it off. You may only need a sworn statement by her and or her family members, that has to be certified by a Notary. But dont listen to me, i'd get with Drea. If I recall she went thru the same situation. Let's wait and see what she ended up doing.

This is what packet 4 says,

(5) Prueba supletoria de nacimiento si no existe Fe de Bautismo o Registro Civil.

Wow. How did you find someone like that in Colombia?

I am not sure what to think about this. I assume they use the baptism certificate as additional proof of identity since "everyone" in Colombia has one. Although your situation is rare, I cannot believe that it is unheard of.

There is no guarantee they will believe you which could delay things since obviously you cannot produce a bp for her. Ultimately I think you would prevail, but in the meantime you lose a lot of time.

To head off this problem in advance, you might need to prove a negative, i.e. she is not Catholic. How the heck do you do that when you also cannot prove that she was born into another religion?

Assuming that you do not hear from someone else who can tell you they had the same situation and it was not a problem, I have a few ideas you might try. I don't have great confidence in any of them, but it is worth a try I guess.

  1. Call the embassy, explain the situation and ask for instructions.
  2. A notarized statement from Paola's mother, father, etc. stating that she was never baptised.
  3. Assuming Paola still lives near where she was born, she could go to the office where they handle the baptism records. Ask if they can search for her records and when they don't find them write a letter confirming that she was never baptised in that parrish. One thing to know if you decide to try this, we recently requested some baptism records and I think they told Bella it would be 2 weeks before they could produce them.

I hope you find out this is not a big deal!

MMMMMMM.........Seems we may have a problem. Bummer. I assumed that since she was not a Catholic it would be OK. I know most of SA are Catholics, but there are many diverse religion's there. We may be in a bit of a quandry. Tyring to prove she is not Catholic would be near impossible. She leaves next Wednesday for Bogota. It is to late today to cll the Embassy. Once she is there it will be to late to accompish anything. This may not be good.

Also,

I'm just throwing out ideas now. Perhaps there is a 'corporate headquarters' for the Catholic church in Colombia, where they keep on file on every single Colombiano that has been baptized?? If there is such a place, maybe they will NOT have Paola's records in their files and could come up with a statement stating that Paola has never been baptized.

Just trying to help, I may be reaching out too far with this idea.

There is good info on that link to Dre's thread. It seems like the primary purpose of the baptism certificate is to provide a second proof of identity. And so, the goal is to find another proof of identity as opposed to justifying why you do not have a baptism certificate.

Because of that, Lucho's brilliant but strangely familar ;) idea of getting the church to issue a statement that Paola was never baptised is probably not going to be very effective. At this point I think that I would concentrate on the idea of getting some sort of supplementary proof of identity.

You might also want to contact your congressmen and explain that you have an urgent question for the embassy and have no way to contact them until next week. They might be able to get the answer for you from the embassy.

Good points Bill.

I would like to add that another reason why the embassy asks for the baptismal certificate is to also verify if the beneficiary has been married before. If the beneficiary has never been married, the baptism certificate will reflect that. Same as if the beneficiary was married, the baptism cert. will also have that noted on it.

Buck,

I say get all the evidence you can and pile it on them. Dont just stick with 1 proof of evidence that Paola has never been baptised. Hit the embassy at all angles. Sworn statements from herself, her family members, see what you can get from a head church etc.

Sworn statements from herself, her family members, see what you can get from a head church etc.

ahhh. I did not realize baptismal certificates showed that. So that is why they want the margin notes. si?

Yeah Dre that e mail says it all, i have to try to be here, its that i am in charge where i work and leaving 9 employees without me being around...ayyy dios!!!! ....but i will do whatever it takes to be there!!! The reason that i want to send her the forms via DHL is because ella es un poquito peresosa!!!!!!! LOL...like this maybe she will feel a little urgency having them in her hands ... ...hope she never reads this...lol...Today she has been calling the doctors, the vaccination places etc...So yeah i am also getting her a little more involed now, im just wanted time to learn the process myself and thanks to all you guys and readig and reading and reading i have learned a ton!!!!!!! Oh and Lucho when you said the little one...it got a chill up my back, eventhough i know she is pregnant, I think it still has not hit e completely...What's funny is have lived alone for a couple of years now and before that only with my ex fo another couple of years, but now she iscoming with her son , our baby, herself...damn i went from a bachelor to Mr. Brady really fast !!!!!!!!!! lol

Chill Bryon. "The embassy info page needs to be updated" because it is WRONG.

You may attend the interview. You WILL attend the interview! Of course that is assuming that you do not give yourself a fatal anxiety attack before you have the opportunity. :bonk:

By the way, we are in the same boat. I am also going from a family of 1 to a family of 4. Yikes! :help:

Bill

Actually its 5 for me ...I looked down and my puppy was giving me that look as if she was saying " hey , what about me "..LOL..

hmmm. we are counting pets? I've got two cats, that makes 6, I WIN!
