Standard wait to receive the visa, if approved at interview, is 1-2 weeks.

I meant after the interview. I figure when someone goes for an interview, at any consulate, they should anticipate that they may need to submit a document or provide some further information. I don't think the interview is the end of the visa process.

So in light of that and the fact that it takes so long for them to get back to you, I was just saying a person should probably anticipate that they may have another 3 or 4 months they may have to wait before moving.

The last person I can think of that had to submit paperwork after the interview and has received their visa now is coraliesolms - she interviewed on February 8th, sent paperwork in March, so she "only" waited 4 weeks.

But we weren't approved at the interview, nor were we asked for paperwork.

The mods need to add "WHY??" to the FAQs for this site.

I had my interview on Feb 8th too. I submitted my additional docs on March 3, 2010 and got my visa on April 19th.

Right, AP. Well that's pretty rare in Montreal. I remember one person who was in AP, Husband had to submit his resume' so they could check him out, I believe he was a scientist.

That only took a few weeks to go through, but Montreal was a bit faster at that time.

Your situation is pretty unique, not much historic info here to go by.

i had interview apr 22 and submitted dopcuments and passports apr 28

and STILL NOTHING

this is horrible

i emailed twice call DOS weekly

check canada post DAILY and a big fat NOTHING

but stress and heartaches

I guess you and I are in a very similar situation, I sent mine April 26th and still nothing...

Kevbev09 you were asking for my story, basically my Wife is canadian, we lived in Montreal, amd we're moving to Mass. (well, i'm already here :( ). We postponed our interview once, when it was scheduled in October, and it was rescheduled to December. We hadn't expected it so soon, but felt postponing again would have been bad... So we had our interview back in December, but they wanted to see Proof of Domicile, and told us that my "intention" to move was not good enough. Eventually when we had what we felt was sufficient documentation, we sent it... April 26th... and waiting.

In hindsight, maybe we should have postponed again, and we would have had it AFTER I had valid proof of domicile. It seems that if you are approved the day of the interview, everything is just peachy keen... it's us "completion by mail" suckers that are getting the shaft.

I guess the ultimate fear at this point is that it would come back refused... I am ASSUMING that if it were to be refused it would have already come back by now. That is seriously the only thing keeping me even mildly positive through this whole awful experience. Haven't heard from my Wife yet today, since it is still pretty early for an Xpresspost mailman guy to come...

One other question, does anyone else know how up to date and accurate the Canada Post Tracking system is? because, I pump in the number of the mailer we left them, and i get "no results found"?

As much as it hurts to see that there are as many people as there are in this situation, at least I feel like my wife and I are not alone...

Same.. no results, over and over. Guess it won't show anything until it's actually gotten to the post office for sorting.

Sorry to pop in, I feel for you guys and hope you get something soon... Maybe they won't have any interviews in July so they can catch up on their APs and what not. I'd be glad to wait until August for a date if it meant your situation got resolved!

And yes, Canada Post will not find your item in their tracking system until it has been 'deposited' to a Canada Post office.

it's insane how much it has changed in the last year, because, honestly, everything up until the interview, we got back relatively quickly. it seems like all the big horror stories of long wait times started sometime this spring... pretty much right when we sent our stuff in.

and when you call the "super helpful" phone line for the consulate (sarcasm... its just a recording basically telling you not to even bother trying to ask them anything) they actually say that if you are completing an application by mail, that the wait time is 2 to 3 weeks. it even says that if you are approved, expect the visa at the end of the third week.

WOW. that would have been nice.

Grats cowgirl, how long was your wait in total? Nice to hear that Montreal is actually still working on the rest of us.

I mailed my stuff on March 15th, and they 'opened' it on May 17th. It'll be 1 month this thursday, and I really need my passport ASAP, I have my medical licensing exams in mid july that I need to travel desperately for.. should I fax them asking for the passport back?
