POE question

Hi. (hopefully) My (Pinay)fiancee and I will be arriving in Detroit as our POE. Can someone who has experienced this please reply. When we arrive will we be separated? I mean will I (USC) go in one direction and she another? Or will we be able to go through the process together? Also do you have to reclaim your baggage there, even if you have a connecting flight? And one last thing, is there any chance in He_L of us getting through there in 83 minutes? Thanks

yes, you'll be separated because there are indeed separate lines for USCs and non-citizens...unless there's a shortage of staff (they have all kinds of people fall under one line sometimes) yes, you'll claim your baggage there for the main check-up (and if you're un-lucky, the longer random thorough luggage check) and then check them in again for your connecting flight. you can make it in 83 minutes (although it's a risk)...the lines can get long at POEs (depending on what time you arrive) where everybody comes in, so make sure you make it first in line at yours hehe.

I have read that there have been some able to pull off just going through the USC line together. I think it depends on the POE. So you only have 83 mins between landing and getting on the next flight? Good luck...everything will have to be just perfect for you to make it though immigration and customs. I guess it depends on the time of the day you arrive at the POE also.

when i went to go get my husband, CBP allowed up to go through US Citizen line since I was...they did the routine check on my husband then the officer went w/us to the immigrants line & allowed us to go to the front of the line & have his POE packet examined by the officer...the officer just looked at his xray film, gave it back to my husband, asked him what address he will be staying at, gave him a handout on getting his social security then stamped his I-94 form & passport then that was it...btw our POE was Honolulu,HI. but good thing we didn't have to wait & stand in that very long 1st time immigrant line or else we would have been waiting there for at least an hour but instead it only took us about less than 10minutes!

You can line up with your Fiance in the NON-USC line, nobody will get on your a55 for that, just last year I traveled with my Grandmother from the Philippines to here in Las Vegas, I lined up with her in the NON-USC line since we were travelling together and nobody got on my a55 about it.

Thanks for your replies. I think I will call delta and see how much it will cost me if I want to change the connecting flight(if possible). I wasn't sure about the bags. I was afraid they would just continue on to our destination even if we weren't on the connecting flights. Thanks again.

We came through Detroit too and we were allowed to go through the Non-US citizen line together. And yes, you will have to claim your bags and go through customs before going on to your connecting flight.

We just went through Chicago as our POE. We went through the US citizen line together. Took 5 minutes to clear immigration and customs.
