Hi,

Does anybody know what are the consequences when the marriage is done without parents consent and therefore one can't even get sworn affidavit from them either? I am just asking this question because somebody was telling me that the interviewer sometime doesn't like this excuse.

Thanks,

OS

I think the OP wants to know if the parents on both sides should agree to the marriage in order to adjust status.

Legally speaking, it doesnt matter if parents agree or not. I am sure the parties who are getting married are grown up adults. I think the point here is that, are families on both sides aware of this marriage? If the husband/wife's family or friends are not aware of the marriage, it could cause the IO to become suspicious.

You can make your parents write affidavits about the marriage and possible send in pictures of them present with your spouse. Sometimes its not possible to get these affidavits/pictures if the non-US spouse has no family or friends in the US.

But if parents are not agreed to the marriage, they not gonna be present in the marriage and they not gonna be writing sworn affidavits for you either. and i am filling my application but the lawyer thought that it gives a negative edge but i was like legally when we are old we can make our own decisions but she was like the interviewer can get suspicious on that so try to convince them in the meanwhile. But what if they didnt get convinced. What are your opinion guyz? Do you think they gonna care
