Ok i'm having some issues.. back in canada i used javex in my white laundry... it stunk worked great my whites were white.

here in the usa it's clorox..they are both made by P&G. so why is it the bleach here hardly smells, and it doesn't work half as well?? my socks are not white, and my tshirts look dingy.. I've tried as the MIL suggested by adding clorox 2, nada. and i hate using so much stuff in the wash

Any better bleaches / ideas out there? I miss my white socks and towels :(

I don't use bleach much (horrible for the environment etc....)...but we have the Target or Giant brand, works fine. You're looking for Chlorine Bleach on the label or ingredients...anything else isn't really bleach.

Could be a water issue as well

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I know one of my gfs in the states swears by a product to keep her white clothes white. I think it's called Oxyclean.

I could check with her if you want...

I think it's probably the water because I use Clorox in Canada when I need to bleach.

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

I don't understand bleach. My Mom never used it and I don't use it. I find my whites are pretty white just by using Tide. Am I crazy? Am I missing out?

I also hate when people use bleach at the laundromat. I've had the water from the top part where you put the detergent in splash on my shirt and had leftover bleach in there and got little white marks all over my t-shirt.

Nah...I don't use it much either...my mom told it me it just eats clothing fibres anyway and the item wears out faster, but to each his own. A neat tip that works well for white tshirts that get dingy is soaking them overnight in vinegar and water and then thoroughly washing, but doesn't do much for socks though

Always used oxyclean, find it works a lot better than bleach, same says my mom too shes a big fan of oxyclean. I find it really helps get the odd stink out of my husbands uniforms too lol...

we just mix the oxyclean with the TIDE HE and its good to go! (I prefer method products tho.. cus they are better for the environment!)

Not to venture too off topic, but I love Tide to Go. I got pasta sauce all over my shirt, washed it, and it didn't come out. So then I used the tide to Go after washing the shirt and it still got the stain out! That's some good stuff.

The trick is to add a touch, let it swoosh around and then leave it to sit for awhile. Another option is to hang your clothes out in the sun - the sun naturally bleaches your whites. Not sure how but, it works and your clothes smell sooooooooooo good:)
