Hi everyone,

I have a question about I131,application for the travel document.

I got married on Feb,2009 and recieved my permenant resident card after a few months.

Due to family issue, I need to leave US for over 12 months.

Therefore, I applied for I131 and recieved the travel document.

The expired date of the travel document is March,2011.

Here my question comes...

I want to stay in my country for one more year after my travel document expired.

Is it possible to apply I131 twice ?

Has anyone applied I131 twice before ?

If not, is there any way I could extend my travel time?

Thank you so much

The validity of the travel document is either 2 years or it expires the day your GC expires, whichever comes first.

Do you have a conditional or 10-year greencard?

If you have a conditional card, then you'll have to come back to the US to remove conditions around March 2011.

If you have a 10-year greencard, you'll need to come back to the US to apply for a new travel document (it requires biometrics, as you're aware) and you'll need to enter before it expires in March 2011.

So in both cases you'll need to come back to the states. I hope this will fit your plan.

Thank you so much. Oakalian.

I believe mine is the conditional one. Like you said, the expired date is March 2011.

May I ask some questions ?

If I return back to US on march to remove my condition. What is the progress of it ?

How long does it take to remove my condition? Can I apply for the travel document before I remove my conidtion ?

I just wanna know how long I should plan staying in US from march 201.

Thank you.

When you return, you need to lift conditions as you said. However, you cannot apply for travel document while ROC is pending... since your GC either has expired or is about to expire... I think you can apply 3 times for travel documents (going off memory) but it is definitely not recommended to spend so much time outside of the US. The main reason of the GC is that you are asking to live here, in the US, but in reality you are living outside of the US.
