Can I apply for a K-1 Visa and a Tourist visa at once?

Hello people,

I'm currently engaged to my American fiancee and I plan to move to the USA in about a year from now. We decided to go for the K-1 visa.

Since she has been the only one visiting me so far I want to visit her the summer and see the sorounding where I will live.

I will apply for a tourist visa somewhere in August so I was wondering if it is possible to apply first for a k-1 visa and then a tourist one? Or can I apply at the same time for both or is it better for me to come back from the USA and then apply for a K-1 visa?

Also I would like to ask: how long does the processing of the K-1 visa lasts?(from the moment you apply till the moment you pick it up)

Thank you for your help people...

Cheers,

Eddyy

hello,

you should apply for a tourist visa first and not overstay it.After u return to your country apply for a K1 because you cannot enter US while K1 is in process.

Thanks for the tip. And how long does the processing of the K-1 usually lasts?Lets say I apply in October. When should I expect it?

ur welcome!

After reading many posts on this site i`d say roughly around 6-7 months but each case is different, has it`s own particularities, also each consulate has it`s own timeline so it`s really impossible to give a precise timing.

Wish you good luck!

Thank you. I'm little bit worried leaving Europe but I guess it will be ok...

Also another question since this is all new to me. I know there are a lot of documents involved so I was just curious how to start this K-1 procedure..Is there somewhere explained step by step?

Who should make the first step? Who should we contact? What should I send my fiancee and what she should send me?

At the top of the page clik the GUIDES section. Then pick K1. The guide is very explicit and it tells you everything you need to do, documents etc. There is a flow chart for K1 too that`ll give you an ideea about timing.

Sorry one more question.

So when I move back to the USA on a K-1 visa after how long I can start to work or apply for some kind of working permit?

When you enter US on a K1 visa you will have to get married within 90 days since your arrival. You can apply for a social security number before or after marriage and also apply for a permit to work.

it shouldn`t take long

You can apply for the EAD (work permit) along with the Adjustment of Status (AOS, which is what gets you legal permanent resident status and green card) after you are married in the US. The EAD processing time is 2-3 months, so if you marry 2 weeks after entering the US on your K1 visa, you can expect to be able to work 2.5-3.5 months after entering.

Good luck!

Well we plan to get married right after I arrive in the US. So after we get married and I apply right away do you get the work permit in about 2-3 months?
