Like everything else.....Control.

Or if you read the article, the fast food chains are hogging cargo space and other resources that are becoming scarce. They are expecting 30k new soldiers and will need the cargo space on planes, and storage space in their warehouses for supplies for them.

If you've ever read the ingredients list on MRE's (I actually have, secondhand--through WaPo), then the stupidity of this move becomes even more apparent; the MRE's are no better nutritionally than the fast foods--and there is debate about whether they taste AS BAD AS (or WORSE THAN) Complan.

Considering the danger in which these soldiers have been placed, why are they being denied an at-least-possibly-pleasurable alternative to their rotten MRE's?

Don't know about the newer MREs but ones from 10 years ago were so nasty most soldiers threw away most of the meal. They're only suitable when it comes to to starvation is the only other alternative.
