Hi all,

I am about to go in for the citizenship interview in a few weeks. The N400 application is based on marriage to a USC for three years. I know that the IO will ask questions on the marriage, so I have the marriage certificate, my wife's passport, joint account statement, joint mortgage forms, and our son's birth certificate. Do I need to bring any photos of the last three years? Any other documents that I should think of?

They recommend you bring two current passport type photos in case they lost the ones you sent in. Really don't need other photos, if they wanted to see me, I was there. Perhaps one photo of you, your wife, and baby together would be nice, but much depends on your IO whether they are interested or not. Or bring your wife and baby with you, some IO's are interested in meeting the family, others don't give a damn.

I would carry with me what you suggested and possibly make a copy of each in case they ask and then they ask about getting a copy - this will help show you are prepared and ready. It is always a good idea to carry more than they need and end up leaving with a positive attitude. Remember if you have traveled outside the US, sometimes the IO likes to see your passport to verify the dates you entered in your application - so let's say you have an expired passport and that contains some stamps in it, then just carry it in case.

Daughter's passport expired shortly after she came here, her dad refused to sign the form to renew it, so has a four year gap between her old and new passport. But she will bring both to her interview, no law that says you have to keep your foreign passport valid, but if you have one, have to bring it.

It's not easy to renew a foreign passport in this country when you only have two or three consulates spread across the USA. But guess what, we still have to do that.

Not sure if my previous post indicated that you need to keep a valid foreign passport - but that is not what I said. All I said what exactly as you did, that if you have a passport that is expired but contains any traveling stamps on it, just take it with you. Don't dismiss it since it is expired.
