I just applied for I-129F and I am trying to plan ahead for the I-485. My fiance is from China and was born in 1972 before birth certificates were common. How do I get around the birth certificate requirement?

TIA

See if anything on the DOS reciprocity table can help you:

Are you worried about the birth certificate for the beneficiary or for the petitioner? The first time I read through I thought petitioner, but second time I understood beneficiary.

There is also a China regional forum where I'm sure people who go through this every day have a lot of experience on how to obtain these documents.

K-1:

January 28, 2009: NOA1

June 4, 2009: Interview - APPROVED!!!

October 11, 2009: Wedding

AOS:

December 23, 2009: NOA1!

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

March 27, 2010: Green Card recieved

ROC:

March 1, 2012: Mailed ROC package

March 7, 2012: Tracking says "notice left"...after a phone call to post office.

More detailed time line in profile.

Thanks for the quick reply. The birth certificate is for the beneficiary.

I think I found my answer at the China regional forum as you suggested.

While she may not have a birth certificate - she certainly has a hukuo book.

She can go to the place where her hukuo is registered, and pay for a notarial birth certificate -

and then

take the certificate to a notarial translation office (usually in the same place )

and have it translated into english, all bound in a white book.

Suggest you get 3 to 4 sets made - she'll need at least 1 more in the USA.

GUZ IV unit knows EXACTLY what to do with the white books.

She'll need a white book for the police certificate, as well.

Good Luck !

just one small note -

if she is a migrant worker - ie

not working in the city/district/province where her hukuo is registered -

then she'll need to go back to 'that city' and get it done there.

Which might be a PITA, rarely 'get time off' when a migrant worker.

One way around this 'additional travel problem' is to have any other family member , one listed in her hukuo book (or vice versa - a family member that has HER listed in that family member's hukuo book) , go into 'that' office and get it done.

It's weird/strange/euphoric - anyone else listed in a hukuo book can get the birth certificate paperwork done in the 'hukuo city'.

Good Luck !
