Hi all - i am canadian and my husband is american. he will be my sponsor, as well as his mother and father in the states for the I-864. Does this mean that I also have to fill out the I -864A form as well? Who is the I-864A form for?

Hi there. Your husband as the USC will always need to be the primary sponsor and fill out I-864. One of his relatives can be the co-sponsor and is also required to fill in a separate I-864. If his mother and father reside in the same household and they need to have their incomes/assets jointly considered for meeting the requirements then it would be most common for one of them to be the Co-sponsor (I-864) and one to fill out the Contract between Sponsor and Household Member (I-864A). This may not be necessary if one of them meets the requirements on their own. Take a look at the notes at the front of each of the forms and also the Poverty Guidelines (I-864P) and see what works for you.

Hope this helps.

In the I864 that the Sponsor fills out (the petitioner and not the joint sponsor) what address should be used for the beneficiary? The address where they reside currently overseas or the address where they will live when they arrive in the US?
