I'm not sure about the issues around rescheduling, but I believe it's possible. Be careful not to let an appointment letter go unanswered, though.

As far as travel, the rules are the same as they were any time before you filled out the N-400. In other words, as long as the trip doesn't cause you to abandon your LPR status, and as long as it doesn't cause you to fail to meet the physical presence requirement, then it won't cause a problem with naturalization. A trip of a month or two ordinarily wouldn't be a problem. At your interview and at your oath ceremony you'll be asked about any international travel -- you'll need to mention your trip next time you speak with them.

Sorry to hear about the family emergency. If you already have your biometrics scheduled and plan to leave after you have your interview you should have no problems travelling. Tell the Immigration Officer at your interview that you would like to wait a bit before the oath ceremony so you can travel. As long as you don't break the continuous presence requirement (6 months visit or longer) and still meet the residency requirements there should not be a problem with deferring your oath. At the oath ceremony they will update any information related to travel and marriage status so you can inform them then.

Now, if you really have to travel quickly, you could travel after the biometrics appointment and before they schedule the interview if you have someone here who can check the mail for you and let you know when you receive a letter from USCIS scheduling the interview. The interview letters seem to be arriving 4 to 6 weeks after biometrics and there is usually a few weeks time until the actual interview date so you should be able to arrange a return trip in time for the interview. You won't get your interview the same time as you get your biometrics, though. You can reschedule an interview although they do like a good reason - a family emergency out of the country would probably be considered a good reason. You would have to wait until you receive the letter scheduling your interview though, before you could arrange to re-schedule it.

The whole Naturalization process varies in time depending on where you live. It can happen as quickly as 4 months or it could take a number of months longer. You can check the "Immigration Timelines" link at the top of Visa Journey pages and see what the averages are for N-400s.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
