I've been in and out of the PHILS many times but always on Northwest Airlines, now Delta. I understand Philippine Air offers non stop service between MNL-LAX, about 13 hours. Is it really non-stop or, is realy with a stop in Hawaii?

Yeah...actually it flies against the jet stream going to MNL which gives it strong headwind and of course it uses more fuel. The stop in Guam is just for fuel....it's not long. The flight from MNL to LAX is non-stop. I've done the Delta from MNL to NRT to LAX....that's not bad...except NRT sucks. Feels like you're in a cattle pen.....

There is about a 45 minute stop in Guam for a splash of gas then back into the air for Manila. You do not de-plane, most just sleep through it. This is the LAX-MNL flight. The return FROM Manila to LAX is non-stop.

Well...the Japanese vending machines are pretty amazing. You can even get a beer from a vending machine! I think CNN did a report on those things. Well, Narita is not too bad, just the little circle terminals....they squeeze you into.

Oh yeah... I like to shop at the duty free shop!!

Hehe.. I spent 4 hours there so I could get my passport stamped to re-enter China... Long story. But I did like the little electronics shop they had there, and the Red Carpet club was nice. It was refreshing to browse non-Chinese Government filtered Internet for a few hours before I went back for another week of fun.

:bonk:

Thanks. For those who never flown out of the PHILS in their lifetime, perhaps a non-stop flight is the way to go. Step in the plane in Manila and step out in Los Angeles. However, I suspect their is still a lot of angst for someone who's never left the PHILS just going through the Manila international terminal check in, the security checks and etc etc...

I flown so much internationally, I have a tendancy to forget or imagine what it might be like for a 20 year old teen age Pinay leaving the country by herself and alone for the very first time on a long flight to the USA. She would prefer to fly with a relative to the USA I suspect.
