I am happy to say that we just got our I-129F approved and I received the NOA2 in the mail. I was expected more directions than simply saying it was approved and will be sent to the NVC, then to the embassy in Ecuador.

Can anyone tell me a few things? What are packet 3 and packet 4, and who will recieve those, me or my foreign fiance?

Also, who will receive the instructions to complete the remainder of the process, me or my foreign fiance? And, will the communication about the directions be through the mail or email?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey, I'm in the same boat so maybe I can help a little. At this point I am gathering documents to send to the beneficiary--I-134 and supporting docs (getting my taxes done now), duplicate of initial petition packet, my birth certificate--while he handles the police check. The beneficiary will receive packets 3 and 4, which contain instructions and forms he or she will need to send to the consulate and/or bring to the interview. Someone else can clarify exactly how the packets differ.

So yes, most of the rest of the process is in the beneficiary's hands. He or she will ready the forms once she receives them, and complete her police check and then arrange for the medical. Then everything, including the stuff you send her, will go with her to the interview. The only part I'm fuzzy about is whether the beneficiary can expedite the interview date assignment by inquiring at the consulate instead of waiting for the go ahead from them.

Hope that helps a bit. Congratulations!

Hey Dan, congrats on the NOA2!! I am going to give you Ecuador-specific information, since the experience once it gets to the embassy is specific to each country. I'm not sure if everyone realizes that. For Ecuador, there is no packet 3. And packet 4 usually takes forever to actually get sent out and arrive to your fiance. (yes, it will go to your fiancee's mailing address, and you probably know how bad mail service is there :))

The best thing to do if you want to keep the process moving along is:

- call NVC and get the status of your petition. Once they are able to tell you that it has been sent to the embassy, get the new case number from them. you can stalk dhl (which i did) or just wait a few days since it doesn't take long for it to get there.

- once it's arrived at the embassy, it will get processed and once it gets processed (entered into the system) they will put your case number [GYQ...] onto their website. You can go to this page: http://guayaquil.usconsulate.gov/cases-ready-for-interview2/ and find the current month. It's a pdf full of case numbers. It gets updated once a week, i believe. In the interim, if you want to get a head start, you and/or your fiancee can download packet 4 and start filling out forms and gathering necessary documents. http://guayaquil.usconsulate.gov/media/pdf/web-pk4-k1-october-2009.pdf (This packet has all the information about what you need).

- Once you see your case number on the website, you can actually move forward with scheduling the medical and then calling to make the visa appointment. The visa number is 1-800-010-145 in Ecuador, or 1-800-919-5290 in the United States. It's $12 per 8 minutes, and when you call you can buy the PIN via a credit card.

Will you be attending the interview with your fiancee?

Please let me know if you have any other questions. And good luck!!
