I was wondering if any of you use brokerage firm to trade stocks and if u can recommend a good firm with a good customer service &low service charges etc....

I use Wells Fargo. If you open up one of their PMA bank accounts (need total funds of more than $25,000) then you get the first 100 trades each year free of charge and after that $5.95 per trade.

I find their dealing service pretty good. The research services can be a bit slow and lame at times but that doesn't bother me too much as I use other sources for stock research as AAII, MSN and Yahoo.

If you did some research, you'd know the answers by now. What that tells me is that you either:

a) really don't want to invest any time in you finances, or

b) like to get some feedback from others

My wife and I have two brokerage accounts: one with e-Trade and the other one with Tradeking.

eTrade charges us $12.99 per transaction, Tradeking only $4.95. I need eTrade, because they offer full streaming free of charge, whereas Tradeking doesn't.

I get up in the morning at 6:15 PST, which is 9:15 on the East Coast. While the coffee is brewing I check the financial news, mostly on Google Finance, and look if there's anything that would make me want to buy or sell any of my holdings. At 6:25 I view pre-market action and exactly at 6:30 am on the trigger with both my account windows open, ready to react to first market moves within the earliest 3 minutes of trading.

That's how my day starts. Often I buy something before I have my first cup of coffee, and sell it before I leave the house around 8:50 (close to noon on the East Coast).

During the day I still keep an eye on the stream at the NYSE, but since I have to work in my real job, it's mostly monitoring if there's anything dramatic going on.

For quick turnarounds, I use Tradeking; for my long term holdings, I use eTrade.

In 2009, I made 36.2% interest on my holdings, mostly playing it very safe.
