Thanks guys! I`m now in Montreal, using the in-room internet at Le Dauphin. I found out rather quickly that it`s pronounced DOUGH FEIGN as opposed to DOUGH FAN, like I was pronouncing it. Indeed, all this French stuff everywhere makes me feel like...like...like an immigrant! :P

But yes, the room is beautiful, as others have mentioned, and already I would recommend it. The decor is great! It was actually quite easy to get from the airport to here too -- the Aerobus takes you to a main bus terminal, and they`ll give you a free shuttle ride to the hotel. Well, they have a tip jar...so in my case it was a $2 shuttle ride. :P

Fortunately it actually FEELS like 8:00 to me...so hopefully I`ll be able to sleep decently tonight.

So now I think I`m going to go for a little dual-purpose walk. Purpose one: source out the Consulate. Purpose two: source out poutine!

I`ll log in again before I hit the hay. Thanks again for all your `bonne chances`. :)

Alrighty...I sourced out the Consulate, which is delightfully close (I knew it was from the map, but walking the route is always more rewarding!). And then I had a poutine at a place called Nickels...and I have a feeling I should have kept looking. It was okay...but not great. I should have double-checked the poutine links people have sent me first, but I kinda like just wandering around and being spontaneous sometimes. :)

It`s a shame I won`t get to see more of Montreal. The consulation is that, provided I pass tomorrow, I`ll get to see a whole lot more of D.C. very soon. :D

You should have asked the guy at front desk for best poutine in Montreal. He thought it was the most unusual request when I asked him and had to "discuss" with the other guy sitting in the office for 5 minutes before finally coming back with the answer that the place is opposite his apartment building but its too far to walk!!!

I so agree with you for the French thing, it feels a little weird to not hear English and see signs in English!! My hubby thought the city is so much like NY with one way streets, people's driving habits!

Nickels is a Quebec landmark... It used to be owned by Celine Dion!

Btw, the seedier looking restaurants sometimes have the best poutine.

Enjoy your time in Montreal!

Owned by Celine Dion, eh?

No wonder their milkshake had no personality but still cost a fortune! :P

Seriously though...that explains why there`s a picture of her in the foyer of the restaurant then. I was thinking, okay...what`s a picture of Dion doing in a Johnny Rocket-esque diner? Now I know!

In chatting with Yvonne, I do remember stopping in there for a burger the last time I was in Montreal two years ago. :)
