I've calmed down a little but still elated!! Now I'm thinking about the POE. I've asked before and read so much about it and I'll be going back into past posts to find more info but I wanted to get up to date answers.

My plan is to officially move to the US just after school lets out in June in order to let my kids finish their school year off (but haven't made up my mind yet!!) but let's say I go ahead with this plan. With my Visa IR1, I can go to the border say tomorrow to 'activate' it and then return home same day, correct??? I wanted to get things rolling such as SSN and Greencard and start applying for jobs. Also, if I went tomorrow, do I have to import car or can I do that in June/July? Any time frame on that car thing?? Also, if I went tomorrow, do I have to bring a list of "things to follow"?

Has there been anyone lately with an IR1 that has done this that I could email and chat with or does anyone know how this works? Thanks again and in the mean time I will check back on old postings. Thanks.

The only person I know of that has done this, recently, is simstar - and she hasn't posted in a long time.

Technically you can do this. I don't know if I would do it tomorrow if I were you. You are supposed to be taking up residence in the U.S. - if you use your visa and then go to another country for 4 months, that might be frowned upon.

That is just my opinion though!

I read Simistar's post on activating at Peace Arch and it sounded pretty nerve-wracking.

I was also considering activating and returning to finish up, but now I think I'll just do activation with POE and save myself further stress.

Let me know what you do, I'll be curious to see how it goes.

DCF Timeline (approximate):

submitted I-130 May 2009

received approval June 2009

submitted DS-230 and checklist July 2009

interview Nov 4, 2009 (IR-1, 221g refusal, domicile)

submitted additional domicile proof December 15, 2009

Received IR-1 Visa Approval: February 26, 2010

Sidelined: emergency surgery!

Anticipated POE date: May 19, 2010

Simstar was different though because her Husband lived in Canada also - it is a requisite of the I-864 that the sponsor go back to live in the U.S. before or at the same time as the immigrant - that is why she had such a hassle.

You have never mentioned whether your Husband is still living in Canada or not, or if he has returned to the U.S. (Brock's Husband is now residing in the U.S.). If your Husband is still here Mtl, I would absolutely say it's not a good idea.

Congrats on your visa!!!! We are still waiting for my husband's to come through! I contacted my senator, and a week later I called them and they said that they would have a case worker call me, but ofcourse nothing has happened yet. I faxed the info. to the other senator so lets see what happens. I'm soo happy for you! Gluck with everything!
