Hello I am new to the forum.... I have done a lot of research and am still looking for help here goes....I met my Ukrainian girlfriend during this past summer she was in the U.S. on a J1 work/travel program visa. We have now had a relationship for 10 months.... she will return to the U.S. one more time on a J1 work/travel visa which will last until the end of Sept. at which point she will return to Ukraine however she would like to extend her visit....

While she is in the U.S. this time she would also like to attend language school (this will let her improve her already good English) so....

1.) CAN she change status while in the U.S. on her J1 status (No residency requirement) to F-1 language school status (and yes finance needs are meet) to extend her stay??

2.) If she can.... assuming she is approved to stay.... once she goes back to Ukraine will they never grant her a visa in the future? I ask because this means she would have changed status while in the U.S. instead of returning to Ukraine on her original return date as planned by the work/travel program originally??

Any information would be greatly appreciated_____Thank You

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

She can't extent a J1 visa but she can change it into a F 1 study visa if she enrolls in any University or college.(this takes time)

If she returns to Ukraine she can get another visa.

She can change statusa from J-1 fo F-1 visa !

I did that and have no problems at all !!

Just need to apply for change of status( from ex-change visitor J-1 to an international student F-1) before your authorizied stay expires. Other words before september, couse she has to be in status in order for her apllication to get approved.

Good luck !! :star:
