Hello everyone,

So my fiance and I are going ahead and filing out the paperwork for the K1 Fiance Visa. I just had a couple of questions which I hope some can provide us clarification.

1) How long is this whole procedure from the time we submit the application to the time we actually receive the visa? I am in Canada and petitioner (fiance) is an American.

2) Once we get it do we have 90 days for me to cross the border and get married or is 90 days from when you cross the border? US Immigration is unclear about that.

If anyone can help out that would be great.

Thanks,

1.) Figure out how long the average approvals are for your service center (your profile doesn't tell us)

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&page=times

Then find out how long from petition approval it is taking folks at your consulate to get interviews. Add those two times and that should give you an estimate.

Once you receive the visa, you have 6 months to enter the US. Once you are here, you have 90 days to marry.

It can vary - right now (historical trends) are showing about 215 days from submitting the petition to getting the interview at the Embassy/Consulate. Statistics can be found here and are based on VJ member's timelines (which are usually a good indicator for what you can expect).

2) Once we get it do we have 90 days for me to cross the border and get married or is 90 days from when you cross the border? US Immigration is unclear about that.

When the visa is issued, you'll have 6 months to enter the US, THEN 90 days to marry.

Filling out your timeline helps everyone get better tracking of their cases.

Also check out this flowchart as it gives time estimates of each procedure. Be aware that you are asking the million dollar question. It can take 3-4 months or a year depending on multiple factors. Some people have applied for K1 in Oct 2009 and are still waiting for their NOA2 while some folks have filed in Nov 2009 and are Visa approved and in the US already. Prepare mentally for a long journey and be happy and thankful if you get it done in less time than planned.

Vancouver consulate is faster than montreal. right now montreal is taking 4 months about from noa2 for an interview date. best bet is to search the timelines. and check out consular reviews etc.

Hi Kimbear,

Thanks for replying to my message and by the way congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Can you let me know how do I create my own time line?

Thanks

RM
