Getting green card/ss card?

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum. My husband just got his visa approved and will be arriving in about a month. My question is, will his green card be automatically sent in the mail? How long will it take? Do we have to send in any forms for the green card? What about the social security card? Do we go and apply for one? Do we have to wait until we get the green card until we can apply for one? I found the social security card application on here, but I'm not sure if we have to send it in or when. If anyone can just give me a basic run-down on how this stuff all works after the immigrant arrives I would really appreciate it. Thanks alot.

1. green card - 1 week to 45 days from POE date.

2. SSN - hit and miss - suggest he go to SSA office soon after POE date, have them look him up in the SAVE database, and apply.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
