Durbin's got it right - TORT reform is about as important to the cost of the health care system as a $0.20 coupon for my $100.00 grocery bill. There are better and more effective ways for me to reduce that grocery bill than clipping that coupon. Seriously.

So, I guess the doctors, that we want to make all the decisions, as far as patient care, don't know enough about their own costs to justify their complaints?

Seventy-four percent of American physicians believe they have less control over the way they practice medicine than they did five years ago, mostly due to medical malpractice litigation.

That’s according to a survey published Friday by Atlanta-based Jackson Healthcare, which also cited insurance and government interference as reasons. The majority, 85 percent, said the threat of medical malpractice litigation is their primary hindrance to practicing medicine as they see fit.

“We found that regardless of a physician’s political affiliation, the respondents attributed the practice of defensive medicine to excessive waste in the health care system,” said Rick Jackson, chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, in a statement.

No, it doesn't mean that. I just won't compare the data offered by the CBO with a poll among doctors.

Why not? One is an objective review that deals solely in the $ effect, while the other talks to the professionals responsible for actual healthcare. I know which one I'd rather listen to.

Does the CBO take into account the indirect effects of tort reform, the altered working practices, the reduction in CYA tests and methods, the increased retention of professional within the healthcare industry?

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself
