Hey everyone, I'm so excited that I found this site. We're just starting the process and it's a little overwhelming to say the least. My fiance is in Auckland finishing up law school, he won't be done until November. Does anyone know if there is a time limit on getting approved for a K1 and then getting over here to the US?

Once your petition is approved, it takes a while before it's forwarded to the embassy. Our I-129F was approved in less than 2 months. I received the embassy letter about a month after approval. I waited a month before I scheduled my interview though. Then once the visa is approved at the embassy stage, it's valid for 6 months from the date of issue. :)

Thanks!

There just seems to be so much to do and things to remember. I'm hoping we can get through it all, lol.

Be sure to check timelines for your particular embassy too - the processing time may differ.

Don't worry! You'll get through it - all this is definitely worth it!

If you need help with forms or have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. Be sure to check the VJ guides too.

Welcome to VJ!! :star: There is a pinned thread for New Zealanders who are going through the interview process at the Auckland embassy. Just go to the regionals discussion - Asia, East And Pacific. On the top of that page is a pinned topic called 'Links to popular country specific threads'. Click onto that and you will see New Zealand listed

The folks at VJ are very kind and helpful! and there is always someone here who are able to answer any questions, so feel free to ask away!

As a side note, if your fiance wants to work as a lawyer in the States he may want to consider doing the 3 month NZ profs course (can also do it part-time over 6 months). I expect that he'll still have to do bar exams in the US but it might make it easier to get into them if he's already admitted to the NZ bar. Good luck.
