What is it for?

You can send the diploma and the grades info to ece.org and they'll evaluate it for you for I think $75 (was that when I did it 3 yrs ago).

For driver's licence - I was never told to get any driving lessons - they're not mandatory here (even though I did full driver's ed and paid a lot for my driver's licence in my home country) so didn't translate anything. And my DL had an English translation already on it. You can try and get an International Driving Permit from Egypt that could be used in the US (normally good for a year).

In Indiana where I am they made me first do a written test, then get a learner's permit, then do the driving test after several months before they issued a real DL. All this after having had a DL for over 5 yrs in my home country.
