hello everyone,

did anyone receive packet 4 with an old ds-230. the one the consulate sent to us expired in 2004 and has a total of 8 pages, 4 in each of part 1 and part 2. the form that can be downloaded from the DOS's website expires in 2012. i don't understand why they want us to complete part 1 again when we have already submitted it.

Did you make a copy of your DS-230 Part 1 from Packet three before you sent it? No sense trying to understand why they ask for what they ask for, just send them what they want. We scanned and emailed the DS-230 Part 1 so we still had the original. We did not use ony of the forms they sent with the packets, we downloaded the lastest revisions from the web.

They are horrendous about updating their information - whenever in doubt - go to the USCIS website and get the latest forms.

They probably send out copies of the old forms because they have cartons full of them in some closet at the consulate, and they're going to keep sending the old ones until they run out of them. Do as Bernie suggests and just download the latest forms.

Phuong mailed her documents back for packet 3, so she ended up filling out the DS-230 twice. I have no idea why they ask for part 1 to be submitted twice, but I just chalk it up as one more mystery of the consulate in HCM.
