The Canadian and American mens and womens hockey teams are putting on clinics this year... the four teams have combined to outscore their opponents so far 64-3.

Guess I don't have to worry about missing the Sabres during the break; there's lots of great hockey to see in the interim! :-D

Canada just wiped the floor with Norway 8-0 in Men's hockey.

Not that anyone expected anything different, mind you...

Heh :-D Those 8 were included in my count; just watched the game here too. NBC joined the game in progress late in the first after the USA/JPN women's curling match ended (can't really fault them for that; covering the US trumped Canadian hockey), so fortunately they saved all the scoring for the second and third periods. :-D

They showed the game on CNBC as well.

The Canadian and US Women's team probably won't have a problem until they meet each other.

It's always been like that (except in the last Olympics when Sweden surprised the US).

It's fun to watch the Canadian women though because I played with or against quite a few of them!

I kinda wish the hockey teams would suck a little more ... would make the games a little more exciting ..

unless you think a blowout is exciting ... but to me it makes it boring i'd rather watch a nail biter of a game ...

don't get me wrong it's good to win ..just don't like being bored watching it

Prob get flamed for this, lol but womens hockey should NOT be in the Olympics! There just isn't enough quality teams! Its pretty much a 3 country tournament, Sweden, USA and Canada! makes more sense to have the women ski jumper competition than W. Hockey in the Olympics! Canada kicked butt on what team was it this week 18-0! And that team beat another team 87-0!! crazy! Just isnt enough skilled countries for womens hockey to be in the Olympics as of right now.

Canada Men played well last night, some real nifty passing took place.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Actually, it was just CNBC. I mistyped; that's what I was watching, too.

You know what Flames? I tend to agree with you...and it pains me to say it! Saying something like that is pretty much tantamount to penalizing a sport because two or three countries are just too damn good at it. But yes...I agree.

I hope J&K doesn't want to kill me now, because I have a feeling she could...and I'll be living near her soon. :

I'm just not sure how 1 can justify womens hockey allowed, when only 3 teams are competitive, but take out womens ski jumping when more countries are competitive!!

Exactly. At least in men's ice hockey, there are seven teams that I personally feel could challenge for Gold. And even the five "lesser" teams can put up a very good fight, as evidenced by Switzerland against U.S.A. yesterday.

Having said that, I DID just turn down a ticket to watch Switzerland vs. Norway yesterday... If it had been virtually any other pairing of teams, I would have jumped at it!

The (mens) Swiss placed higher in the last Olympics than both Canada and the USA!!

It's very true! But I still don't think they're of the same caliber as Canada, Russia, Czech, USA, Sweden, Finland and Slovakia. Like Jaromir Jagr recently said though, when they're just single games and not series, any team can beat another once. I was quite impressed, actually -- Jagr acknowledged that Canada was likely the "better" team on paper, but that it just takes one win to knock them out come elims time next week.

I'm not even sure that Canada is the best team on paper though.

Exactly! I feel kind of bad about it, since I'm willfully turning down a ticket to an Olympic event...but I think watching paint dry might have a bit more entertainment value!

No, won't kill you

Actually agree with both of you. As much as it hurts me to say it, but I agree, that the quality of women's hockey, just isn't there in the other countries that participate.

Canada, US and Sweden are about the only countries who have been able to field 'good' teams...and I say 'good' because women's hockey can be painful to watch. Don't take me wrong, I LOVE women's hockey, love playing it, but it's so different from the men's game, that it's not fun to watch.

It's slow, too much passing, shooting isn't that good, etc.

It's different when you play, especially with the women on the national teams, they are awesome for their abilities.
