I am trying to check the AOS case status on the USCIS website. It keep saying file number not found. My case number begins with MSC....maybe that is the reason why it can not find the case.

According the the website, the receipt number has to beging with something other than "MSC"

Not true. Once your case is entered into and is active in the system, you will be able to query your case number, including if your case number begins with MSC.

Where did you read that the case number cannot start with MSC?

It does not say that it cannot start with MSC. It says, "It begins with three letters such as (EAC, WAC, LIN, or SRC)." Those are examples, not an all-inclusive list.

We just completed AOS and I tracked all three of our MSC receipt numbers (for I-485, AP and EAC) using the USCIS website, including text and e-mail alerts, throughout the process. MSC receipts are not a problem.

We got the email notification 3 weeks ago and the NOA1 2 weeks ago...but the receipt number is still not showing up

Mine don't show up either. The notice date is Feb 3. I read that sometimes it takes two-four weeks to show up online. All we can do is wait.

I have called USCIS, they told me normally it takes a few weeks for the website to update your status after you got the NOA1.

So just wait :)
