You can't get it done in the US. It must be done in Vietnam.

Here's an old post from the other forum where I discussed my experience.

I copied below the info from Packet 4 regarding the Medical Exam. You must have the medical done at either Cho Ray Hospital or at the IOM. (We used the IOM and were very pleased with them.)

You cannot have the medical done until you receive packet 4. In that packet there will be an appointment letter that you must take with you. You will also need passport and two visa photos.

See below - Step 15 of Packet 4

15. Medical examination results: Please do not open the envelope provided by the Panel Physician. There are two

steps that you need to follow:

Step 1: Vaccination: Fees for vaccination depend on your age and the required vaccinations. Bring all of your

vaccination records with you to the Quarantine Service of HCMC at 40 Nguyen Van Troi Street, Phu Nhuan

District, HCMC, Tel: (84-8) 844-5306 for your vaccinations.

Step 2: Medical examination at our Panel Physicians. Results are complete in about two days. You must bring

your appointment letter, passport, two standard visa photos and the fee for your medical examination

processing. The fee for each applicant aged 15 or over is US$100 and for each child under 15 is US$70. Cho

Ray hospital accepts fees only in Vietnam Dong; the International Organization for Migration (IOM) accepts

fees only in US dollars. Here are the addresses of our Panel Physicians:

Cho Ray Hospital (CRH), Visa Medical Unit

201B Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Ward 12, District 5, HCMC, Tel: (84-8) 3856 5703, website:

http://www.choray.org.vn/huongdan.asp

The International Organization for Migration (IOM)

1B Pham Ngoc Thach Street, District 1, HCMC, Tel: (84-8) 3822 2058/3822 2057/3822 2061,

website: http://www.iom.int.vn/joomla/index.php

Please note that the examining physician will discuss the medical results with you and any follow-up

treatment you may need. You must follow up your treatment at our Panel Physicians.

Thats for K-1 Bernie... He is talking about CR-1 or K-3

here is the form used, but as Mark said.. it needs to be done in VN as they may refuse a US exam

Maybe I misread your question. We are refering to medical exam for interview.

Maybe you are refering to medical exam for marriage liscence? I am not familiar with that process in VN. Where I live in Pennsylvania they dont even require medical exam or blood tests anymore.

The exerpt below is from the Vietnamese Embassy website and is listed as a requirment for marriage in Vietnam.

"Medical Certificate issued by an authorized psychiatrist confirming that the applicant has no mental illnesses, or has a mental problem but not to the extent of losing consciousness of his/her own actions. Please ask your family doctor for a referral to a psychiatrist."

Julian - I dont have any experience with this as we were K-1 but I am sure that other VN CR-1 filers can help you with this.

There was one member here I think Dao from Texas got the mental exam done at King Solomon's and they took it. That was almost 2 years ago but I tried to get it done at the same place he did for my marriage because I didn't have alot of time to spend in Vietnam and was told at that time Vietnam would no longer accept it I had to get it done there. That was in Febuary of 2009.

I've heard of King Solomon (in Houston) they do a variety of services.

IMO you should follow the directions on the VN Visa Website (to be on the safe side) and get the medical here in the US AND then again in VN (if in case they reject your US examination). I went to my physician for a regular routine (cough/sick) checkup and he is actually a Physicians Assistant (PA) and he had no problems filling out the questionaire page. In this US "test" I just got my doctor to sign off on the slip because he has/had been my dr for three years prior...

I did end up re-doing the medical in VN, but I felt secure that my package was completed in the US when I sent off the documents. In the VN "test", they just ask you standard questions like what day of the week is it, how old are you, and then get you to talk about your history a little...VERY easy and the dr (I got) was very funny... :)

As for the photos, just bring passport sized photos--I didn't have any problems with mine.

I did my mental test both in VN, and US, and this is why I have to do another one in VN.

1. I paid $70 + $50 (his signature) for one of the medical doctor in US for my Mental Exam.

2. Send back to VN, their Reject it because the doctor is not WORKING IN THE HOSPITAL. (NO PRIVATE DOCTOR ALLOW FOR MENTAL EXAM).

3. I have to redo my mental exam in VN for $50,000 + COFFEE MONEY = $200,000

even with the coffee money it was only a little over 10 bucks... so seems like alot of money saved doing it in VN...
