HI,

My fiance has to go for medical and then visa interview. She have noticed a mistake in her passport. Should she postpone the interview date and get the Police clearance certification after she gets new passport in her hand? New passport will have different issue dates and passport number.

Please, give me some suggestion.

Thank you for your time and helping me out...

I don't know about your country, and you haven't stated what's wrong with the passport? What kind of a mistake? A spelling of a name? I wouldn't think it would mean a new passport number would it? Do they do amendments of current passports? Probably something you could look up on-line about passports from your fiance's country. Would she have to show her passport to get a police clearance? Probably not. So you could go ahead and have that done. Again, without knowing what the mistake on the passport is, whether her country issues amendments or just generates a new passport, or what kind of time frame it takes to do that, I don't know what other info to offer.

I think by checking her country of origin and the passport FAQ's and procedures, you might find some good answers.

I have a similar issue - in my wife's passport (India passport), her father's name is listed last name first (ie they jumbled up the name). but her mother's name is listed properly. In all of our applications (I-130 and I-129F) and docs like marriage license, her dad's name is xxx yyy zzz (first name, middle name/initial and last name). but in her passport, it is yyy zzz xxx. We are still waiting for initial USCIS approval, but now I'm worried about the DS-230 form that we will receive with packet 4. There it'll ask for father's name - how do we give it? Or do we try to fix the passport? She's going to go to the Passport office on Monday to get her PCC and will be inquiring about how to fix it. She filled out the application properly, and even apparently when they pull it up online, it says the name properly. But it is still written the wrong way in the passport...

She did tell me something intersting about the passport office in Bangalore (where she is). When she went to give in her name change and apply for a renewal last October, the clerks didnt even bother to really look at her docs. And she had them expedite via tatkal. it came to her in 2 days!!! I was amazed at the speed...hopefully fixing this will also be just as easy...

Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale - My beautiful wife Soni
