President Obama's friends call him the smartest man ever to occupy the White House (a dubious claim in light of the fact that John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln and Woodrow Wilson all had better intellectual credentials or were far superior writers, or both). According to his supporters, his command of the English language is supposedly unparalleled (when using a teleprompter, presumably).

You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in politics who doesn't make use of euphemisms, buzz phrases or other rhetorical devices. Quite what this is supposed to prove...

I stopped listening to Bush's speeches, because it was abundantly clear that he simply didn't know what he was talking about - and him being in front of TV cameras to explain his political visions was just embarrassing (embarassing in its superficiality and in its total absence of any real detail). To his credit, I've never gotten that same sense from Obama - generally speaking you can follow what he's talking about, even if its obvious that he's using doublespeak to obscure and obfuscate.

Gene you missed the memo, the Republicans are the thinking man's party, responsible for nothing they have ever done, the people's party with nothing but sensible idea's on where the country should go from here on all issues.
