to provide food to oppressed peoples in war/famine stricken countries.

However I will say, when a country is facing a recession and total economic collapse and another country is suffering from the aftermath of an earth quake, isn't it better to have the attitude of: " Hey, we feel really sorry for you guys and would love to help, but right now, in our own country we have some problems we really need this money for and cannot at this time donate, however we will ask ordinary American people to send money to X organisation and that money we are happy to donate."

Better? If you're selfish perhaps.

Handouts like emergency relief aid, to dig people out of the wreckage of their homes following natural disasters, or to provide food to oppressed peoples in war/famine stricken countries?

No, handouts like billions of dollars in "foreign aid" to countries like Israel or Egypt.

Israel's GDP is $200 billion, Egypt's $470 billion. Do they really need it?

Supply and Demand 101 suggests otherwise. Certain groups have kept degrees expensive, for the elite, while pushing for more and more uneducated illegal aliens to take up blue-collar jobs. Even in this crisis, the majority of blue-collar jobs in my area are going to illegal aliens. In the same breath, this same group of folks turn around and claim we are not doing enough for America's poor, in particular minorities. Logic a kid in an elementary school can see results in a fail.

One again, it's not rocket science. The unskilled or blue-collar labor market needs to be sealed shut for the next five or ten years. That way, such a restriction on supply will drive up salaries. Yes, this does mean less profit for the slave drivers that are profiteering at the expense of Americans.

You like to scapegoat illegal aliens without addressing the real problems. I guess its easier, since the real problems don't have a simple solution. While you can pretend to do something by rounding up illegal aliens and shipping them over the border.

I'LL TELL YOU GUYS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WHERE WE ARE HEADING.

Basically from the head up, we are FORCED to use overseas Vendors into the design of our product development.

in the past, our business cycle goes up and down. in the up time you hire people and when business slow down you have lay off.

For the past 4 years, the company has been laying off people due to the slow down, and Replacing those same folks in Singapore.

The next generation of our R&D product will be manufactured in Singapore, On the last product released we did R&D, test, and a small level of production before the product was sent overseas.

NOW

They are bringing the Team from Singapore, at the Betha, development stage, so NO PRODUCTION will be done in the USA.

I had a team of 28 guys, now I am down to 3, most of them got replaced by others in Singapore.

so like the NPR guys, Let's take a look at the numbers!

25 Jobs

25 Salaries

25 states, Local, Federal income taxes

25 folks now the govt have to pay unemployment insurance while getting less incoming tax revenue.

You take my group and you multiply that by the whole company, you multiply that by the whole Sillicon Valley region, because this company is not the only doing it. It's like in the old days, you push the Leader of the Goat /Sheep overboard, and all the others just follow suit, Because nobody is using their right mind to see what's in the interest of AMERICA.

It's all about the next revenue, increasing your ROI, the short Term to satisfy the investors, the stock market, in a way we are all responsible.

Gone but not Forgotten!

...if you want to adopt economically ruinous policies that amount to political suicide.

When Joe Walmart shopper discovers that he can no longer feed his family because Walmart products cost the same as the Vons, who do you think he's going to vote for and how do you think the opposition will go about getting his vote?

Sadly, it's true.

Stereotypes are fun right? You can do better than that.

There is the American adage, that if you work hard, you will do well. Not really true any more though. There are very very few opportunities to succeed without a 4 year college degree. Many end up working 60-80 hour weeks not by choice, but just to survive.

Of course there are lazy people who try to take advantage of the system, just like there are wealthy people who try to evade taxes. But we shouldn't make our policies based on these people, as they are often the exception not the rule.

That is an assumption as well. As a foreigner, I can see and tell too well who is simply not interested in working. Hint: they usually lounge around the streets, live off the government, and have no intention to work.

Once again though, cut the supply and allow people the opportunity to earn a decent salary, as they do in most other first world countries, and I bet things will change.

That is the real problem. The incentives are driven by the shareholders. There are no balancing incentives to create jobs and employee people.

This is still true. Yes, sometimes it's about IQ and being creative, but working hard you can still do well... the "do well" part however... some people judge their success on material wealth only, that's a problem.
Stereotypes are fun right? You can do better than that.
This isn't a stereotype. No matter what country I have lived in or travelled to, there are those people who just lack zest for life and have no ambition, nothing to do with race or religion or whatever, it's personal choice and personal responsibility.

Bingo!

Actions that are being justified as this is how the free market works. Wrong! This is how companies around here work.

Nailed it again..

Some people here just refuse to accept that this can occur or be the dominant attitude in an entire community. To them, it must be some other reason.

That's nonsense - there are plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Start your own business - you don't need a 4 year college degree to do that, just a good idea

and common sense.
