Hey all! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I flew to Pakistan to ring in the new year with my husband, and after 22 hours of traveling home to the U.S. I turned on my cell and found an e-mail from the NVC giving us an Interview date for Asim!!!!!!!!!!!!!! February 4th at 8 a.m......we're both a nervous wreck and thrilled that this day has finally come.

There are contradictory stories on picking English vs. Urdu in the interview process. He would be more comforable speaking Urdu, but I've heard the Pakistani interviewers are more harsh than the American interviewers. Any input anyone has would be more than welcome. I won't be attending the interview because of employment reasons.

I am going to have my husband do his interview in English so they know he and I can communicate well. Also I plan to be at his interview.

I have a question for you. Did you have any problems getting your Visa to Pakistan? It used to be really easy. For a while they were giving Americans a hard time getting Visa's. One of my friends had her passport and Visa fee returned by the Pakistani Embassy in New York because they wouldn't give her a Visa even though they had done it before.

Carolyn

I had no problems at all getting the visa to Pakistan. I applied for a one time visit in July for the wedding and received it back within a week and then applied in December for a multi-visit visa (to save money in the long run) that is good until 2014 and again received it back within a week. I went through the embassy in D.C.

My husband speaks pretty good English but feels that he can explain in better detail his feelings and our relationship in his native language. And if the CO is abusive he can at least feel comfortable in the language and give the appropriate answers. I believe the Urdu interviewers will also ask if they speak English and determine their level of English during the interview as well...but it's really a personal decision. I think what matters most is the comfort level of the person being interviewed....sometimes a native language can provide extra confidence and peace of mind.

I originally intended on visiting Pakistan again when he had his interview but had some professional obligations come up that I knew would end up conflicting with the interview date (i.e. February) so decided to visit for two weeks over the new year instead. Multiple visits secure our proof of bona fide relationship...not to mention we miss the @#$@ out of each other. LOL

I've also heard from many Pakistani interviewees that if the USC goes to the interview it can be brutal because your interviewed separately and they try to find conflicting answers and make it harder for approval...but then others have had good experiences so it really must depend on the CO's and the political climate at the time.

When is your interview? I'm so excited for you and hope it all goes well and you get your Visa soon....this waiting game can be brutal!!
