So my fiance in England had her interview at the US Embassy in London this morning. All went well aside for some minor technicalities regarding me alone as a sponsor. Since my current job is fairly new and my tax return from last year (which was the culmination of my former place of employment. NOT all that big of a paycheck.) they want a joint sponsor. And if that all checks out then she gets visa and we are as good as gold!

So my first instinct is my father who is retired and on social security. My question is, can I use him as a joint sponsor even though he isn't employed? And if so, since I had to supply a letter from my employer confirming my employment, what are his requirements since he is no longer employed?

Thanks to all who can help!

If your father's income is enough to qualify, then sure. He'll have a SS award letter and a tax return. Line 22 on the 1040 will tell you if he qualifies. His household size is himself plus any spouse plus your fiancee. If his income doesn't qualify, find somebody who does.
