Supervisor Chris Daly has made a new year's resolution to use the F-word at every meeting.

SAN FRANCISCO — Supervisor Chris Daly’s resolution for the new year is to utter the word “f***” at every Board of Supervisors meeting in 2010, which by his calculation will happen about 59 times.

Daly has a long history of controversial behavior and has repeatedly drawn criticism and calls for censure for what he has said during public meetings.

During Thursday’s Board of Supervisors Rules Committee, Daly made his intentions known during the public meeting, uttering the first “f***.”

Daly’s New Year’s resolution is his reaction to press scrutiny after swearing during a December meeting.

Daly also proclaimed this resolution on his Facebook page: “For 2010, I vow to use the word ‘f***’ in each of my remaining Board of Supervisors meetings.”

After using the word ‘f***’ at the outset of the Rules Committee meeting, Daly provided an update on his Facebook page. “The word ‘f***’ warmly received at the Rules Committee. One down, 59 or so to go.”

The plan, however, is not sitting well with Board of Supervisors President David Chiu.

Chiu told The Examiner that he “dropped off a bar of soap” at Daly’s office “so he cleans up his language.”

“The Board of Supervisors should be an example of civil and mature leadership,” Chiu said. “Our city is facing far too many challenges to be distracted by this.”

Daly told The Examiner after the committee meeting that the resolution is like a pledge to go the gym.

“It will probably peter out by like February,” he said.

He also brushed off concerns if children hear his expletive during a television broadcast.

“I’m on there and my kids don’t even watch it,” Daly said. “It’s important, but it’s boring. Maybe the ratings will go up.”

In 2004, Alioto-Pier introduced a motion to censure Daly after he told a landlord who was in the audience of a board committee hearing about a controversial renters’ rights proposal to “f*** off” and then walked out of the room. The motion failed.

Most recently, Daly said “f*** you” to several members of the Board of Supervisors during a Dec. 15 board meeting after his colleagues denied him a chance to speak more on a specific item. The expletive was not picked up by the microphones that time.

Later, he interrupted police Chief George Gascón, who was testifying at the podium, and introduced himself. Daly walked out muttering a profanity to himself.

Daly said later on that day that Gascón has never bothered to call him, or talk to him since he became police chief, even though one of Gascon’s first big moves was a well-publicized crackdown of drug activity in the Tenderloin, which is in the district Daly represents

Supervisor Sean Elsbernd said about Daly’s latest expletive and his promise for more that he was focused on The City’s budget — San Francisco faces a half billion deficit for the fiscal year beginning July 1 — and was not going to spend any time thinking about Daly’s profanity.

So... a city that prides itself on homosexual rights is worried about someone using dirty words?

Sounds like something Craigslist would be upset about. Where are they from again?
