i just read this:

For example, under the House bill, a family of four making $44,100 would pay no more than $2,425 a year to buy coverage in the new insurance markets. Under the Senate bill, premiums would be higher, $2,778.

The gap between the two bills involves greater out-of-pocket costs, including deductibles and copayments. For the same family, the House bill would cap out-of-pocket expenses at $4,000 a year. Under the Senate bill, it could be far more, $6,150.

i will be really ticked off if they pass this thing and people are paying 250 a month then every time they go to the doctor, they are nickeled and dimed at every step of the way. or, people pay 250 a month and deductibles are so high, the only thing the insurance ends up covering is heart surgery.

it just stinks to be paying monthly and then also pay at every door step along the way.... every office visit, every lab testing center visit, then pay a the prescription counter.... pay, pay, pay.

i want it to be completely free!!!! :):) i don't care what it costs. i will retire early, way early, before SS kicks in so just looking out for me, me, me. LOL!

I wouldn't count on any of that. Vermont, tiny Vermont, has had government option health care for a few years now, basically a state version of what the congress is trying to pass. Premims for a family of earning that amount have climbed to nealry $1000 per month after beginning at less than $400 (maximum) The minimum for a sinlge person is now $149 per month. It is pretty good coverage actually, but by no means cheap. It WAS cheap when it started. What went wrong?

Well, employers either had to pay the state to subsidize the employees without insurance OR provide a health plan themselves. Problem was it was SO much cheaper to allow the "State" to do it that many employers who had been giving health coverage DROPPED their plans and simply subsidized the state for the state plan...it was cheaper for them. Of course the costs to the state were far, far above what was planned and the state had to raise premiums in order to survive AND to discourage employers already offering insurance to not drop the plan. In other words, the state HAD to be competitive in price or be forced into bankruptcy. Uninsured and unemployed people are paying the price. A single, unemployed worker (maximum $425 per week UI benefit) pays $149 per month, more than $400 for a family! A week's pay for insurance! And that is the subsidized amount! It is like paying for another home!

Dont even think for one moment you will insure your family for $250 per month. It isn't going to happen.
