N400 joint filing question

Hello - I am a new member to this forum. I am ready to file N400 application for both myself and my wife.

Both are permanent residents since 5 years.

Question is can I send both applications in the same packet - with seperate application form and checks.

Lol..There is no such thing as "joint filing" for the N-400, as it is not a "joint" application form...

So what I think you meant is, filing 2 separate applications in the same package...

Which is fine and perfectly legal to do. In fact, I would do the same thing if I were in your situation...Definitely saves on the postage and time there!

Heck, lawyers and other 'representatives' do that all the time, with no problems.

Just make sure you send in two separate application forms (one for you, one for your wife), two separate application fees/checks (one for you, one for your wife), two sets of passport photos (one for you, one for your wife), and two sets of any other documents that you need to enclose (one for you, one for your wife)

Though if you are sending in multiple applications at the same time, you should also note the following:

-If you are sending more than one case in an envelope, clearly separate the cases by rubber band or clip fasteners.

As well, if I were you, I would write a note saying that you would both like the same fingerprints date, interview date, and oath date, as then you can get both of those things done at the same time and not have to worry about going to your local office at separate times. Besides, you are both married together, then why not go through the citizenship process together!

Thanks Ant. That makes sense. Yes, that is what I meant by Joint filling is filing together in a same package.

I would put them in the same envelope but seperate each application in a small yellow jacket file and put ur A# and N-400 on each jacket so that they know...they are two different applications in there

Sent ours in two envelopes within a single larger mailing envelope and it worked out well....
