So, my spouse sent me the paper work I will need for my interview at the consulate; however, he sent his original divorce decree with the I129F so I only have a copy of the first page with case number of the decree that is not certified. My USC spouse thinks that it should be okay because they all ready have the original. Of course, I am freaking. Has anyone ever gone for an interview and when asked for the divorce decree told the officer that the consulate all ready has it and the officer looked through his or her pile of information and found it? That sounds pretty lame to me.

Do they ever not ask for the USC divorce paperwork? Real worried about this.

dont have experience in the divorce situation but i work for a law firm and have interviewed @ the Vancouver consulate. From my interview experience, if everything sent to them, they have it and they do pay attention. Its a plus that they have the original.

although if you may need the certified copies in the future for other purposes, he'll need to go to the court clerk.

I interviewed at the Vancouver Consulate, and I brought my certified divorce decree with me. I had sent in a copy with the petition, not the certified one. Your interview is on the 13th. Does he have enough time to get another certified copy to you? If not, there is really nothing you can do about it at this point. Unless it's really easy for him to get it, and priority mail it to you, I'd not worry about it. Bring the copy, and if they ask you for it, just assertively tell them that the have the certified copy, but if they want photocopy, then you have that. You should never send in originals. Keep the certified copies to show them "proof" if you've given them photocopies beforehand.

Best of luck! Let us know how this works out for you.
