K-1 medical, immunization records question

My fiance and I are just starting this, but trying to plan ahead. His mom only got him vaccinated against a few things as a child, skipped the rest. She doesn't remember what. She doesn't recall his pediatrician either. There were records, but apparently they were lost during a transfer. She has said that she has someone trying to track them down, but this seems very iffy. :/

My fiance went to the doctor and explained this, the doctor said he just can't get the shots without the records. What in the world do you do if the records are lost? I can't imagine this is the first time a child's medical records are not available. >.<

As an adult he hasn't had so much as a tetanus shot. I was suggesting to him that he get going on some of these shots (although I am having a rough time figuring out exactly what he has to get), since he needs so many, this could tie up everything?

The region where he lives will have the local immunization records depending on how old he is. I can't remember how far they could go back.

So in ON, I lived in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo - I called the health unit and they forwarded me to the local health dept.....worth a try.

Yes, I couldn't get mine from Nova Scotia Health, they only started keeping records from 1984 on. SDW is right, I had to go get a titre test done. Its just blood work and it will tell them if there is immunity in the blood for mumps, measels, etc. It took about a week for all mine to come back but it was worth it. I couldn't find the paperwork for the mumps titre test so I had to have that shot again which doesn't hurt you. If anything I was told, it weakens over time so getting another one wouldn't hurt me. Good luck. The GP will be able to order the titre test.

Oh thank you for that link! I thought there were more. Google has led me to some huuuge lists. I'm glad I asked.

Thanks all for the answers, we both feel a lot better about this. We are good at thinking of every little thing as a huge road block, lol.

You can also try his local school board, the important vaccines are listed with the school board as a vaccine record. That's how I got mine.

Good luck.

local school & provincials records are the best route.

I spent mega on long distance said so called hostipals, school boards record sleuthing, many promise but no one actually act on it or any feedback. I googled and went right to the source nfld gov't of health.

I lucked out a gal, ministy health dept minister, she fast found my old childhood vaccine records, via schools and sent within 24 hrs, public school vaccine records...not her job or area but as a favour! She had access all my info, she snail mailed all info free of charge and I got within a week :)

Thank you all. My fiance was home schooled until grade 11, and I don't think he had to have any documentation to get into school at that age, or as far as he remembers. He is going to make a doctors appointment this week to get the titre test... I think it's fairly hopeless that he finds any old records. They've had no luck so far. I hope he can get all of this done in time. :/
