So, I find the K1 to be confusing because it seems some times it is referred to as a non-immigrant visa and other times an immigrant visa.

When my fiance goes to his interview in a couple weeks, should he be expect to pay the $135 for non-immigrant or $355 for immigrant visa, on top of the $170 for the medical at the Barbados consulate? I went on their website and call them nearly once a week and never get the same answer twice.

Also, if anyone else has dealt with this consulate, maybe you can help us. My fiance's intv. is for 9am on Monday, Jan 4th and he has to get the medical ahead of time. If he goes for the medical at 7am the day of the interview are we cutting it too close to the interview? I ask, because to get done ahead of time ( a day before) we have to arrive in Barbados four days earlier due to the New Years holiday and the weekend (which is expensive flights and accomodations for us). The consulate said we could do the medical prior to the intv. as long as we get there early, but the consulate did not promise that the medical would be done in time for his interview, in which case we would do the medical and go back the next day for the interview (even though we would of missed the initial intv. appt and technically not have an intv. appt. the next day).

Aghh, I just can't seem to get any protocol or guidelines to help up plan the stay for his visa interview.

Any advice is appreciated!

K-1 is a non-immigrant visa... currently it is $131USD but fee changes are in the wind. Not sure if they have been officially approved or when the effective date is of the change but the proposition is to push the "K" visas to close to $350USD

YMMV

Ok thx, I have seen that discussion about the fee change, hopefully we will get in before the fee change takes place. Thx for your quick reply! Now, I just hope someone else out there had dealt with the Barbados consulate regarding my other question about the medical.

in many places the results are available same day but not within two hours... my wife went in at 8AM... medical was finished by 11AM and results at 4PM... I gotta believe your plan will not work.

Thanks, the results will most definitely take at least a day, but the lady at the Consulate said we could go into the Medical at 7am day of the interview and have until 10:00am (even though the intv is at 9am) to complete the medical, then go to the intv. and then wait for the results for the next day.The issue for us, is every time I call I hear a different story, so I am not confident that this plan will work. We may just need to bite the bullet and head to Barbados days earlier.

Most consulates will issue a 221g if your application is missing required information and you will have some days to get the missing info to them
