Hi all,

We recently started our K-1 journey and I have a question that you most likely will know.

When does my fiancée need to provide the affidavit by?

(I'm the beneficiary she's the sponsor).

The reason why I am asking is that she's currently thinking about changing jobs, would that affect it somehow?

Her current job pays well above the poverty limit and if it's based on last year's income it should be fine.

We also have savings that could be counted towards it?

Does my current income have anything to do with it?

Tried to find some information on when, I read that the, in our case, Swedish consulate might request it for the interview and later in the same document it said she needs to provide the affidavit when I file for LPR...

Could someone shed some light on the situation please? :)

It's not covered here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=k1flow

Affidavit is needed for the interview.

So you would need it in hand prior to getting the interview. (it is usually sent in with packet 3/4 to the embassy)

Changing jobs would affect it, in that she would have to show that her new job is "permanent", not temporary. (letter from the employer would suffice)

Savings could come into play, but if she makes enough, you will not need them.

Your income does not come into play at this point.

(BTW - it is covered in the flowchart - check the forms (Step 9):

I-134, Affidavit of Support: To file a promise with the Bureau to support an alien entering the United States and that the alien will not become a public charge. A separate affidavit must be filed by the sponsor for each person. )

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

Thanks a lot Bobby, I'll pass the info on to her.

Thanks for a quick reply.

Cheers.

You'll receive a so called "Packet 3" and it will have a checklist. Once you have checked all the points on the checklist, you send it back to the Embassy and they invite you for an interview. One of the things on the checklist is the Affidavit of Support. So once you have NOA2 you want to start collecting pay slips etc for the Affidavit. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!
