Hi, guys -

Quick q for those that have gone through it. How long did it take from sending off your application to your American-born baby receiving their Canadian citizenship card?

We sent ours in sometime in mid-September. The website says it takes roughly 12-13 months? Is that right?

Merci!

I sent in my son's in sometime in late summer (maybe Aug???) and still haven't received anything yet. I thought I had read somewhere on CIC website to expect approx 5 months. I sent it with delivery notification so I know that it was received at CIC. So I am thinking sometime in the early new year???

I'm having trouble logging in to the CIC website to check my status.

I'll try again in a month or so.

Thanks, guys.

Have you received an acknowledgement from them with a case number? I haven't received anything from them so I haven't even tried to log on to the website.

Ok, just checked CIC website and see that they do send out acknowledgement letters. I haven't even received a letter. I know I had delivery confimation from Canada Post that they received it. Hmm, didn't keep the delivery confimation ticket. Wonder if I should start trying to track it down. Although the timelines said 5 months from the time they receive the application so that would be in Jan.

J + B, How long after sending out your application did you receive your letter?

I applied for my daughter's Canadian Citizenship card January 2009 and she finally got it the end of November 2009. So it took us 11 months and I used my Canadian address. That might have sped it up but not by much. When I was home in August and called the citizenship office in Sydney they told me that in August they were still processing Decemeber 2008 applications. Good luck.

Married August 21 2004 in Nova Scotia!

October 19/04 sent I-130.

April 17/08 finally arrive back in New Orleans after 3 years and 8 months.

May 19/08 Perm Resident Card arrives.

July 24/08 Reapply for a new SS card with married name.

August 4/08 Baby daughter born.

Wow, how amazingly slow!

Lol..Though 11 months is not that slow in the grand scheme of things....Go Canadian Immigration!

Wow, 11 months (by having a Canadian parent and by getting Canadian citizenship via naturalization)..and voila...Canadian Citizenship for Baby...

Darn, I should have applied for Canadian citizenship instead..

No wait..I'm already a Canadian Citizen...(lol..though it took me 4 years via naturalization as a child...definitely slower than 11 months!)

Hmm...makes me rethink about applying for Canadian Citizenship for my son...

We'll see though....But a nice thought anyways....

He'll have to cash in his "moose card" first and get the real moose first....lol....(just kidding...)

Good luck everyone on your Canadian citizenship journeys for your children too!

Good luck everyone on your Canadian citizenship journeys for your children too

Technically, they are already Canadian citizens. The journey is to get the identification that helps them prove they are.
