if there were ever another vietnam, this is surely it. obama and all of his robots lying their azzes off with regard to the troop increase.

i've said that obama will get 4 more years because the economy by election time will have improved (if americans are shopping, they could care less about who is president), but if the lying, the blatant lying continues, he could lose over this especially since his lied about pull out time is near election time and especially if conditions aren't any better as well.

considering the 80 percent illiteracy rate, people who have resorted to killing to resolve any kind of dispute, no discipline at any level in the population, i have very very little hope for any success in afghanistan. afghanistan can't handle success.

obama's biggest mistake will be all the dishonesty around this. even if the repubs agreed with this war, when it comes election time and things aren't as obama said they would be, repubs will capitalize on it. i can also see youtube blazing with obama's and his robot's quotes.... lies... it could do him in. there are people out there now, saving every clip to replay during the election.

as bad as it is to say, the only way to win in afghanistan is to take over. short of taking over, no success would ever be long term. the other option for afghanistan would be a ruler such as saddam (darn i say)... someone to rule with an iron fist and who isn't particularly religious.

What lies in regards to the troop increase are you referring to? I don't agree with the troop build-up and would like to see us out of there sooner rather than later but I don't see what lies the administration is telling on this.

they are lying about the date of the supposed pull out. the date is july 2011 which given the mission there is not enough time.

It could be a BCT every 6 months, 2 BCTs every 4 months or whatever, depending on the conditions on the ground. The Bush plan of writing a blank check to the Aghan & Iraq government, with no defined measurements of success or end state was a total failure & just pulling out is not an option IMO so tell me if you don't like Obama's plan what would you suggest?

The Bush plan is working in Iraq. I don't think he wrote a blank check. He simply said we would be there until we could leave a stable government that didn't harbor terrorists.

I suggest that we win in Afghanistan. Stay until the government is stable and doesn't give terrorists a staging ground. I don't mind the date so long as it's a prediction, not a plan. As in, if everything works, conditions at that time will dictate that a pullout can begin.

My point is quite simple here. The plan isn't some brainfart that the President came up with overnight but the result of careful consideration and expert advice. The surge in Iraq lasted for all of 14 months and it was considerably smaller - that didn't work either?

yeah, it worked and it is something obama wouldn't admit to during the campaign yet he has a surge of his own. hahahahaha! copycat! but his surge will NOT work. nothing short of taking over afghanistan or installing a saddam like ruler there will work.

and please, don't compare iraq and afghanistan, they are completely different beasts. it is as good as comparing wwii with vietnam.

The pull out should happen now . Let Karzai figure this all out. Great Britain and Russia gave Afghanistan all they had without any success. These Afghans are skilled experts in defending their borders. Don't see much is going to be accomplished except more unnecessary blood shed.

if it has to be done, this is the way to do it though it still won't work.

it isn't a good idea to compare iraq to af... in iraq, the fight was over the cities, in af, the fight is in the mountains that share a border with pakistan so the terrorist will always have an escape route. they can retreat to their safe haven, regroup and come back at us over and over again, year after year, decade after decade.
